The post Vatican II era was an exciting time to grow up Catholic. I confess to a soft spot in my heart for Pope Paul VI, the pope whom I most remember from my childhood. One of my favorite quotes of his is: If you want peace, work for justice.
Julie Lonneman
Upon his ascension to the papacy in 1963, Pope Paul VI reconvened the Second Vatican Council which had automatically closed at the death of his predecessor, Pope John XXIII. After the council had concluded its work in 1965, it fell to Pope Paul VI to interpret and implement its many reforms, a daunting task due to the conflicting expectations of various groups within the church. His work has had wide reaching effects on every aspect of Church life since.
He was beatified October 19, 2014, by Pope Francis.
His feast day is September 26.
