Nuestra Señora de los Dolores is one of the titles or advocations of the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of Christ. This image depicts Mary with one or several swords in her breast or heart, symbols of the sorrow she endured upon witnessing her Son’s crucifixion. She is usually dressed in a red gown and blue mantle with hands folded in prayer.

In New Mexico she is appealed to for strength in suffering and compassion for all enduring their own sorrows. She is the patroness of help for children and women in childbirth.

Her feast day is September 15.
